On the Road with Shaunti

My co-author for, “For Young Women Only”, Lisa Rice, and I traveled to Dallas on Sunday night. We had a series of television shows and interviews on Monday, the 27th. It was one of the first chances that we’ve had to really get some good publicity for the new book “For Young Women Only”. We did not realize that the previous book that Jeff and I wrote, “For Men Only”, would negatively impact our ability to get television shows and radio shows interested in “For Young Women Only”. So, it has taken several months for us to get the TV shows interested in having me back on. It was fun for me to include my friend and co-author Lisa on this our first publicity trip for the book.

I did a Dallas Morning News segment for Fox, after which we got in the car and raced over from Dallas to Fort Worth to do a live segment on FamilyNet, which is a major family te ... Read More »

This weekend was another highlight of my year. Jeff and I had received an invitation to go again to Central Christian Church - the largest church in Las Vegas. I had been there last year to do an interview with the Pastor during services, about the topic of ‘For Women Only’ and this year …

they invited us back to talk about ‘For Men Only’. It’s always fun to do events together with Jeff. However, since I have been gone so much recently, I realized that we couldn’t leave our kids behind, so this weekend was wonderful because we brought our little ones with us.

So, we loaded the kids on a plane very early on Saturday morning and flew out to Las Vegas, where we got there just in time for Jeff to turn on the television and watch his beloved Michigan Wolverines in the big game against the Ohio State. Unfortunately, Ohio State won, but other than that, t ... Read More »

I had a ladies night out event this evening in Lawrenceville Georgia and it was terrific. I’m going to get on the plane tomorrow, but for tonight I was glad to have a fun evening with a really neat group of ladies at a small Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.

This weekend was such a treat for me. I had been invited to be one of the speakers on the first cruise ship to be entirely charted by a Christian Women’s group. The other speakers, authors, singers and I were on board for four nights and just had a fantastic time.

It was a working vacation, so there was quite a bit of time when I had to be “up” and onstage, but it was wonderful for me to be able to bring Jeff and really have some down time. And the cruise directors were fantastic in that they had asked the women on the cruise to let the artists and authors enjoy their downtime just like anyone else, and only ask for autographs or ask questions or whatever during the official sessions. And I was really pleased to see that most people really respected that. It made it really enjoyable.

My co-author Lisa Rice and I spoke jointly to an assembly of high school girls at Wesleyan, one of the top private high schools here in the Atlanta area. I have to admit I don’t think that I originally gave these high school girls enough credit for being willing to really listen to what we were saying about what the guys really wanted and needed. Shaunti and LisaThey actually received it so much better than I thought they would, and I realized that every teenage girl is surely interested in boys, and what’s going on inside their heads-and that’s a good thing. A lot of them were also willing to hear some of the more challenging things, like the fact that the boys are laughing, and how they treat each other. Also, because the boys are so tender inside, they are general ... Read More »

Last night I spoke to a group of 450 women at a major church in Southern California, just south of Los Angeles. I got up really in the morning and flew to LA, and had a couple of hours before the event. I had a really fun time with the women, who were packed in to this neat facility that mariners call the tent, which sort of looks like a giant tent.

They had 250 women sign up ahead of this time and probably close to that same number show up at the door. The facility always has a lot of energy when every seat is filled and people are standing in the back and sitting around the side. These women came ready and willing to listen.

I was thinking about something that I have heard several times in the last few events, including this event and the one last weekend. I had women come up to me, very troubled by my findings about how men are visual and what that means. I realized that so many of us women are really engaged in w ... Read More »

Saturday afternoon after I left Calvary Community Church, I flew from Seattle to Phoenix and drove to the area of Chambers, Arizona. I was going to do a women’s event at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship on Monday night.

Sunday and Monday were great opportunities for me to try to lock myself away in a remote hotel room and get a lot of catching up done on the next book “For Parents Only”. It’s very stressful to be way behind on deadline and to know that there’s such good information but to not feel like I have enough time to really do a good job of getting it out on paper. So, this long weekend break in between the Seattle and Phoenix events was a really good opportunity for me to get a lot of work done.

Sunday morning actually was great for me because I went to the morning se ... Read More »

I had one of the most touching experiences of my life today. I had been at Calvary Community Church a year ago to talk to the women about For Women Only to explain things that they didn’t know that the men in their life needed. That event a year ago was a great event and the church had invited me to come back this year to do the For Men Only version.

Calvary FMO Shaunti sized 250.jpgI came in expecting just a few men, since men don’t usually attend relationship type of events. Instead there were 350 men in the room. When they introduced me and I walked in on stage, all 350 men jumped to their feet and started applauding and they wouldn’t stop. It was one of the most touching moment ... Read More »
