| Ok, so, I have started going to a new church about 1 or 2 months ago. I play the guitar and it turned out that the same time that i started going to that church, one of the youth group's leaders(he is 19 we have gotten to be pretty good friends) was wanting to start a band. So, to make a long story short, i am in a youth praise and worship band now. Ok, a few days ago, on wednesday, was the band's first time playing for the youth group. One of the songs we played was, GRACE LIKE RAIN(One of my favorite songs). So, one of the singers came up with a rap verse to put in it. It was pretty cool, just, I don't know if that is really what you would do in a worship servise. Any opinions? |

| You can praise God just as much with a rap verse as you can with Amazing Grace. Unless the verse is absolutely inappropriate, I'd say run with it! Kudos to your fellow singer for being so creative! |

I love that song!!! I heard one version at a retreat where the piano player did this whole long gorgeous intro, it was amazing. Anyway. Okay, here is why you don't do rap in a worship service- to respect the (usually older) people who maybe can't even handle more upbeat music. I mean everyone has their own taste in music, so it's important to make people feel comfortable. That goes both ways, though, and I'm not into services with super slow boring songs, either. I guess that is usually why slower music is played on Sunday morning, and upbeat contemporary worship songs played at youth services or whatever. But I think that a lot of classics could be beautifully updated without changing very much. A guy once told me that he doesn't believe in Christian rock music. I disagree. The classic hymns we have nowadays weren't around in Jesus' time, and I think that as music changes in general, so will worship music. I don't believe that one type of music is more or less holy than another, if they are both about worshiping an Awesome God. |

| I wanted to edit my comment to say that I don't think a rap verse was in any way wrong, and I think that is really cool that you guys did that!! I think that was probably a really great way to update and personalize a song (haha American Idol) and still keep it relevant and classic. I wish more songs were like that =] |

| as long as the church doesn't mind, but since rap is kind of annoying to people (i think it would distract me from the lyrics, since i don't really like it that much) you may want to bring that into consideration. |

the kids put on a christmas play at church and they turned O come O come Emmanuel into a rap and it was really good!I agree with Adelynn about usually contemporary or rap isn't used because elderly people aren't used to it. If you did play it you could say you were working on this song and wanted to play it and see what people think...I wouldn't really like much rap in church, but any other day rap and hip hop is all I listen to |

| Thanks! I'm not against christian rap or anything, i like it when I'm riding around with friends and christian rap is being played. I don't have any Christian Rap CD's though, My grandparents are kinda strict when it comes to that kinda stuff. Haha, I better be glad i get to listen to Third Day!lol. But, I am convincing them that it isn't the music, but that message that counts. A by the way, the rap verse that one of the singers put in there went really well with the song. Ok, I know this is random, but, Is anyone else thats on here, on FACEBOOK? |

| Luke i love christian rap its like my whole ipod genre ha i think your bandmate guy was creative with that and it probably would be a good idea to play at your youth group because kids are more into that style of music but like everyone else said, if your gonna play in your main sanctuary with the older people, i wouldnt use the rap then |
